Cairns & Great Barrier Reef operators in a spin for holiday vouchers

$200 Holiday Vouchers for Queenslanders

Cairns & Great Barrier Reef tourism operators are revved for a busy Easter and the lead-up to the region’s peak domestic season being boosted by the announcement of the Cairns Holiday Dollars campaign.

The Queensland Government and Tourism Tropical North Queensland (TTNQ) are giving Queenslanders access to 15,000 travel vouchers worth $200 each to spend in Tropical North Queensland. The vouchers can be used to claim 50 per cent of any eligible tourism experience excluding accommodation with a maximum of $200 from the voucher.

TTNQ Chief Executive Officer Mark Olsen said the vouchers could be spent on world-class experiences in Cairns and the Northern Beaches, Port Douglas and Daintree, Cooktown and Cape York, the Cassowary Coast, the Atherton Tablelands and the Savannah Way.

“This means a family of four could get $200 off the cost of a trip to the outer Great Barrier Reef, an exclusive tour of the world’s oldest rainforest, or on an epic adventure to Cape York,” he said.

“Tour operators across the Cairns and Great Barrier Reef region are putting together deals especially for the Cairns Holiday Dollars campaign to ensure holidaymakers make the most of their $200 voucher.

“They are the perfect excuse for visitors to discover that summer lives on in the tropics and experience the tours that international visitors include on their Cairns & Great Barrier Reef itineraries.”

Cairns Adventure Group co-owner Roderic Rees, Sunlover Reef Cruises General Manager Greg Erwin and Bad Fishy Business Development Manager Nikki Giumelli are each planning to create packages to maximise the value of the Cairns Holiday Dollars for visitors. The three operators joined Mr Olsen for a joy ride alongside Cairns city in Bad Fishy’s recently refitted jet boat.

Member for Cairns and Assistant Tourism Minister Michael Healy said the campaign was all about getting visitors out exploring and experiencing what the region offered to spread the economic benefit further.

“This strategy will pump millions of dollars into local businesses which is exactly what we need right now. And we know that once people get a taste of Tropical North Queensland, they can’t get enough, meaning this campaign will help us grow our domestic visitor base long into the future.”

Queenslanders can enter the draw to receive a voucher from today (8 March) for 72 hours with successful recipients advised and able to book tourism experiences with their voucher from 15 March – 25 June 2021.
